I think Ms Scott is a great writer, so kudos for that. Can a ghost confined to Marlow House and a pint-sized medium bring the people they love home. Other characters, like his mom Julia (with her mysterious associations), his remaining family (sister and nephew), and some new and interesting people (good and bad) get more airtime. I thought he would accept what the author was saying because the author is dying from an incurable disease, too, so he has special credibility on the subject. Our family can have a nice meal together now and I find that my kids even notice when they see other kids NOT "minding their manners".
